Kull, an Atlantean barbarian who has seized the throne of ancient Valusia, rides through cheering crowds but trusts no one. Brule the Pict brings him warning of a conspiracy older than mankind: the serpent men, who can wear the faces of the king’s own counsellors and guards, and who mean to take his place.
