In a ruined tower near the Martian polar cap, a dying comrade gives Eric John Stark a talisman and a promise to keep: carry it to the city of Kushat. Hunted by the warlord Ciaran and haunted by the jewel’s ancient memories, Stark is drawn into a war of barbarians, ice creatures and a masked warrior in black armour.
