The complete poems of Catullus, privately printed in 1894, set Sir Richard Burton’s verse translations beside literal prose versions by Leonard Smithers, with the Latin text, an introduction and frank explanatory notes. The love poems to Lesbia, the savage epigrams on Caesar and rivals, the wedding songs and the long poem on Ariadne abandoned by Theseus are all here.
