Cupid steals a foot from every second line, Ovid complains, and so the poet who meant to sing of war writes love elegies instead: to and about his mistress Corinna, her doorkeeper and maid, rivals, quarrels and reconciliations, with a festival of Juno at Falisci. Henry Riley’s literal prose version is supported by copious explanatory notes.
