The book opens with A Fugue of Hell, a dream vision of the soul set on an uttermost peak of the underworld, and moves on to the Hymn of the Tomb Builders, The Tornado, A Song for the Hills, Romany, Idols and an Ode to the New Century. Shorter pieces include a wistful address to a snow man.
