In a small apartment in a northern city, Rachel Loving, warm-hearted and devoted to children, learns from her mother how her father and half-brother were lynched in the South. Over four years her hopes for marriage and motherhood, her love for the neighbour boy Jimmy and the slights faced by Black children around her force her toward a painful choice.
