Dying Brutus divides Britain among his sons Locrine, Camber and Albanact. When Humber, King of Scythia, invades, Locrine wins the war but falls in love with the captive queen Estrild, betraying his wife Gwendoline, with the clown Strumbo and his rustic neighbours supplying comic relief and the goddess Ate introducing each act.
