Georgian theatre trimmed A Midsummer Night’s Dream down to two short acts: Quince, Bottom and the other Athenian workmen rehearse their play, while Oberon, Titania and Puck quarrel and work their charms in the wood. The lovers are gone, and songs are added. The adaptation is usually credited to George Colman the Elder, with David Garrick’s hand in it.
