A physician and former nonconformist preacher argues that most accused witches are deceivers, impostors or victims of melancholy and fancy. He accepts that angels, spirits and apparitions exist, but denies any bodily league with the Devil, carnal copulation, transformation into cats or the raising of tempests, and reads Scripture closely, including the story of Saul and the woman of Endor, to make his case.

An important sceptical voice in the late seventeenth-century witchcraft debate, licensed for print in 1676. Download the free EPUB.
