For some fifteen years Henry Nelson Coleridge noted down what his uncle said in the evenings at Highgate, often in his own words. The dated entries range across Shakespeare and Milton, the Reform Bill, the Church and the early Christian fathers, German philosophy, the art of poetry and the characters of Coleridge’s friends.
