Monsieur De Vlierbeck, a nobleman of old Flemish family, has lost his fortune and keeps up appearances in a decaying country house for the sake of his daughter Lenora. Her attachment to Gustave, nephew of the vulgar and wealthy Monsieur Denecker, seems their salvation, until pride, money and village gossip set the families against each other.
A quiet, affecting novel by the father of Flemish literature, ideal for readers of Gaskell and Trollope. Download the free EPUB.
