In 1890s Kristiania a circle of young poets and artists talks, drinks and quarrels about fame, while the hardworking merchants who fund them are quietly exploited. Hamsun sets the vanity of the literary bohemians against the decency of the merchant Ole Henriksen and the fresh young Aagot, who is drawn into their world.
An early, sharply satirical novel by the Nobel laureate who wrote Hunger. Download the free EPUB.
