In 1907 the naturalist Seton travelled by canoe with Edward Preble down the Athabasca and Slave rivers and on to the barren grounds north of Aylmer Lake. He describes voyageurs and Mounted Police, a conference with chiefs, the guide Sousi Beaulieu, a wood-buffalo hunt, and at last the great herds of caribou on the tundra.
