Published in 1826, the young George Borrow’s collection renders Danish poems into English verse: pieces by Adam Oehlenschläger such as ‘The Death-Raven’ and ‘Fridleif and Helga’, and old ballads of knights, elf-shades, spectres and the heroes of King Diderik. A handful of miscellaneous pieces and Allan Cunningham’s verses to Borrow complete it.
