Drawing on stories told by peasants in Irish, Lady Wilde gathers tales of the horned women, stolen brides, fairy music and the evil eye, alongside the charms, cures and spells country people used against witchcraft and sickness. Sketches of the Irish past and an essay on the island’s mythology frame the collection.
