Insisting that plain speaking is necessary, Brooks traces the evolution of religious belief, scrutinises the Koran and the Old and New Testaments and the claims of Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, and then sets religion against medicine, astronomy, geography, chemistry, geology and evolution. Later chapters on witchcraft and morality argue that freethought can do all that theology claims to do.
