Hill sets out the geocentric picture of the heavens, the sacred numbers seven and twelve and the twelve-thousand-year cycle, then argues that the incarnations of ‘God Sol’, the labours of Hercules and the Christian calendar of Nativity, Epiphany, Lent and Passion Week all grew from star and sun worship. Its comparative mythology belongs to nineteenth-century freethought and has not held up.
