On a calm June afternoon in Guernsey a child’s disobedience sets a family story in motion. Chapters with titles such as “The Boarding School”, “‘Twixt Love and Duty”, “Superstition” and “Dark Days” follow the households of the island through deceptions, business failure, a secret correspondence and reconciliation, with tales of island superstition along the way.
