After the death of an Albany lawyer, his anxious widow and her two daughters take a modest house in Saratoga Springs. When a young railway engineer, Aaron Dunn, comes to lodge with them, shy Susan falls in love, and her mother, her pious elder sister and a visiting minister all weigh in on whether he is to be trusted.
