An old man sits alone in his room at dusk, and a moonbeam on a portrait sends him back to his boyhood with Elisabeth. He remembers their games, the botany lessons in her mother’s parlour, his years away at university, and the visit to the estate of Immensee where he found that her mother’s wishes had decided her future.
A small masterpiece of German romantic realism, as delicate as a lyric poem. Download the free EPUB.
