Printed in London in 1709 and sold for a penny, this verse complaint by a disillusioned husband curses the uneasy bonds of wedlock and praises the calm joys of the bachelor he once was, prompted by the divorces then being granted by Parliament. It is bound with poems on the pleasures of a country life, including John Pomfret’s The Choice.
A lively specimen of Queen Anne popular satire on marriage and its discontents. Download the free EPUB.
