Noah keeps a ship’s log from the day he weighs anchor for Ararat, with a crew list in which he is captain, purser and veterinarian. Entries record the rain, the family’s complaints, the trouble of remembering animals’ Latin names and Mrs. Noah in the galley, all with the deadpan of a small-town skipper.
