Selections in English from centuries of German comic writing: the fox who plays confessor, St. Peter learning a lesson, a raid on a parson’s kitchen, Jean Paul’s tale of Van der Kabel’s will and many more. An introduction considers what makes a nation’s humour distinct, and C. E. Brock’s illustrations accompany the text.
A generous sampler for readers curious about German wit beyond the obvious names. Download the free EPUB.
