Joe Miller was a comic actor of Drury Lane; after his death John Mottley gathered a book of jests under his name, and it grew through endless editions until an old Joe Miller meant any stale joke. This American reprint keeps the original anecdotes and adds hundreds more, featuring wits such as Sheridan, lords, parsons, lawyers, sailors and Irishmen.
