A meek Greek tailor pulls a thorn from a lion’s paw on a forest path, then finds himself among a band of Christian prisoners marched to Rome for the games, among them the hot-tempered convert Ferrovius and the patrician Lavinia. Shaw turns the old fable into a comedy about what people are truly prepared to die for.
Shaw at his most playful, mixing pantomime slapstick with serious questions about belief and martyrdom. Download the free EPUB.
