De Wet went to war in 1899 as a private burgher and became the most elusive of the Boer commanders. His memoir covers Nicholson’s Nek, the siege of Ladysmith, Paardeberg and Lord Roberts’s advance, then the long guerrilla campaign in the Orange Free State, when his commandos repeatedly slipped through British columns, through to the peace negotiations.
A first-hand account of the South African War from the other side, written soon after the peace in 1902. Download the free EPUB.
