Francisco López de Gómara, chaplain to Hernán Cortés, wrote this history of the conquest of Mexico, and Thomas Nicholas translated it into Elizabethan English. It follows Cortés from his birth and his years in Santo Domingo and Cuba through the expedition of 1519, his speeches to his soldiers, the march inland and the city of Moctezuma.
An early English window on the conquest, partisan to Cortés and fascinating for its period prose. Download the free EPUB.
