Written in 1901 while the author was a prisoner of war at Ahmednagar in India, this plain memoir tells the Boer War from the other side. The son of a Transvaal clergyman, Van Warmelo rode with the commandos from the early battles through the long guerrilla war, recording camps, river crossings, raids, hunger and capture, without literary airs. The Dutch writer Frederik van Eeden contributes a preface.
A rare Afrikaner first-hand account, valuable beside the many British narratives of the war. Download the free EPUB.
