Dictated rather than written, these reminiscences of the admiral who built the Dreadnought fleet range over his friendship with King Edward VII, his German rivals von Tirpitz and von Pohl, the quarrel over the Dardanelles that ended his time at the Admiralty in 1915, and his creed that economy is victory. Anecdotes of a long naval life arrive in no particular order.
