Written in the immediate aftermath of the war of 1879, this history by a Cape colonist traces the causes of the conflict with Cetewayo, the disaster at Isandlwana, the defence of Rorke’s Drift, the death of the Prince Imperial and the final British victory at Ulundi. Wilmot writes wholly from the settler side, treating the war as the last act in a long series of frontier wars.
A contemporary account of real value to military historians, though its racial attitudes are those of a colonist in 1880. Download the free EPUB.
