Andrew Wauchope of Niddrie trained as a boy in the navy, then joined the Black Watch and served in the Ashanti war and later campaigns. Between soldiering he stood for Parliament against Gladstone in Midlothian. This memoir, written soon after his death leading the Highland Brigade at Magersfontein in 1899, draws on family papers and recollections.
A warm Victorian military biography, valuable to readers of Scottish regiments and the Boer War. Download the free EPUB.
