Margaret Brooke married Charles Brooke, the second White Rajah of Sarawak, and went out to live in his Borneo kingdom. She describes river journeys with chaffing Malay women, the household at Kuching, Dyak villages, customs, friendships and dangers, with an introduction by Sir Frank Swettenham. Her affection for the people is plain, and her outlook is that of a colonial ruler’s wife.
