John Rogers of New London broke with the Puritan establishment of colonial Connecticut and founded a small dissenting sect whose members were fined, whipped and jailed for generations. Written by his descendants, the book first vindicates Rogers against hostile historians, then traces the Rogerenes’ annals from the 1630s onward, drawing on family papers, court records and documents never before printed, including evidence of Rogers’s own turn against slavery.
A rare inside account of religious dissent and persecution in New England, valuable to genealogists and historians of liberty of conscience. Download the free EPUB.
