Written as the United States took control of the Philippines, these papers defend the Spanish friars against the charges made by Filipino rebels and American critics. Coleman reviews the orders’ missionary and educational work, answers the accusations one by one, blames the revolution largely on a secret society, and criticises the arriving Protestant missions, adding an account of Dominican missions in China.
