Twenty-five centuries of Jewish life, told in one continuous narrative: the exiles in Babylon and the return to Palestine, the Maccabean war of independence, Herod’s reign and the fall of the Temple, then the long dispersion through medieval Spain, Germany and beyond, down to the author’s own century. Along the way she pauses on the liturgical poetry and scholarship that sustained a scattered people.
A clear Victorian survey, edited by Michael Friedländer, written for readers who want the whole arc of Jewish history in one book. Download the free EPUB.
