In 1837 Stephen and Mary Riggs went west to work among the Dakota people of Minnesota. Riggs recounts their years at Lac qui Parle, the labour of reducing the Dakota language to writing and translating the Bible, the upheaval of the Dakota War of 1862, and the later missions at Crow Creek and beyond.
A rich missionary memoir, though its talk of ‘Paganism’ and ‘uplifting the Red Men’ reflects its 1880 outlook. Download the free EPUB.
