Sewell reconstructs the rise and fall of Vijayanagar, the great Hindu empire of southern India whose capital at Hampi was sacked in 1565. To his history he adds the first English translations of two sixteenth-century Portuguese accounts, by the horse-trader Fernão Nunes and the traveller Domingos Paes, found in a manuscript in the Bibliothèque Nationale.
Still the classic English introduction to Vijayanagar and to the ruins at Hampi. Download the free EPUB.
