Issued in 1899 by the Transvaal government under State Secretary F. W. Reitz and largely written by the young Jan Smuts, this manifesto recounts Boer grievances from the British seizure of the Cape through the founding of Natal, the Orange Free State and the South African Republic, the conventions of 1881 and 1884, and the capitalist jingoism the authors blamed for the coming war.
A key document of the Boer War; its account of South Africa largely ignores the black African majority. Download the free EPUB.
