Boyesen, a Norwegian-born American novelist and professor, begins with the Norse gods and the world-tree Ygdrasil, then follows the viking age and the kings of the sagas: Harold Fairhair, Erik Blood-Axe, Haakon the Good, Olaf Tryggvesson and Olaf the Saint. Later chapters carry the history on through union with Denmark and Sweden to the nineteenth century.
Lively popular history for anyone drawn to the vikings and to the country Boyesen left as a young man. Download the free EPUB.
