Written by a war correspondent who knew the Ottoman lands, this is a near-contemporary history of the 1908 revolution that forced Sultan Abdul Hamid to restore the constitution. Knight traces the corruption and spy system of the old regime, the early reformers, the spread of education, the secret committees of the Young Turks and the army officers in Macedonia who rose against Constantinople.
A vivid first draft of history from the moment when the Ottoman Empire seemed about to remake itself. Download the free EPUB.
