In the 1650s the Amsterdam rabbi Menasseh ben Israel campaigned for the readmission of Jews to England, from which they had been expelled in 1290. Lucien Wolf reprints his pamphlets, including The Hope of Israel with its tale of lost tribes in America, the humble address to Cromwell and the Vindiciae Judaeorum, with an introduction on the return of the Jews to England.
