Working almost entirely from manuscript records, Chatterton tells the story of the revenue cutters that patrolled Britain’s coasts and the smuggling luggers they chased. He covers the Customs service and its rules of engagement, the ships and their crews, running fights at sea, the laws aimed at fast boats, and the fishermen and townsfolk caught between the two sides.
Real smuggling history with all the romance of fiction, by a writer who refused to embroider the facts. Download the free EPUB.
