A young barrister of the Middle Temple kept a commonplace diary through the last year of Elizabeth and the accession of James I. He jots down sermons, gossip, jokes, epigrams and news of the Queen’s death, and records a performance of Twelfth Night at the Middle Temple in February 1602 and an anecdote about Shakespeare and Burbage.
A small, lively window onto Shakespeare’s London, cherished by literary historians. Download the free EPUB.
