Drawing on the chronicle by Bayard’s anonymous squire, the Loyal Servitor, this book follows Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard, from his boyhood as a page through the Italian wars of Charles VIII, Louis XII and Francis I, his defence of bridges and cities, his courtesy to prisoners and ladies, and his fame as the model of chivalry.
