Josephus opens with his priestly and royal descent, then recounts his education, a mission to Rome, and above all his command in Galilee at the outbreak of the Jewish revolt against Rome. Most of the work answers rivals and accusers such as John of Gischala and Justus of Tiberias, defending his every move in letters, stratagems and narrow escapes. The translation is William Whiston’s.
The only autobiography to survive from a Jewish writer of the first century, essential beside The Jewish War. Download the free EPUB.
