Rather than retelling battles and administrations, Ford arranges his portrait of Washington by topic: his family, physique, education, relations with women, farming and land dealing, slaves and employees, social life, amusements, friends and enemies, and only then the soldier and statesman. He quotes Washington’s own letters and accounts at length.
A pioneering effort to show Washington as a human being, still lively reading for history lovers. Download the free EPUB.
