In the reign of Henry VIII, Sir John Foterell is murdered by the mere near Blossholme Abbey, and his daughter Cicely finds herself and her lands at the mercy of the abbot, a grasping schemer. With her fierce nurse Emlyn and Emlyn’s long-faithful lover at her side, she fights to keep her inheritance as the dissolution of the monasteries approaches.
