Edgar Ravenswood, last of an impoverished noble line, has lost his estates to the lawyer Sir William Ashton and hates him for it — until he saves Ashton’s daughter Lucy from a wild bull and falls in love with her. Lucy’s formidable mother has other plans, and Scott builds the story from a real Dalrymple family tragedy he heard from his own relations.
One of Scott’s darkest and most concentrated novels, and the basis of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. Download the free EPUB.
