An English traveller, Guy Mannering, casts a horoscope for the newborn heir of Ellangowan in south-west Scotland and foresees danger at certain ages. Years later the boy has vanished, the estate is sliding into the hands of a grasping lawyer, and the gypsy Meg Merrilies, the smugglers of the coast and the dominie Sampson all have a part in what follows.
Scott’s second novel, published in 1815, gave readers Meg Merrilies and Dominie Sampson, two of his most memorable creations. Download the free EPUB.
