Two girls of eleven and nineteen, dressed alike in flowered cashmere gowns, come in from a walk while old Cicely the nurse thinks her own thoughts. Their life at Ashcliffe Hall under My Lady Ingram brings family troubles, a death in the night and conversations about the old Protestant martyrs, as the sisters learn what faith requires.
A quiet religious historical tale by a prolific Victorian writer for young readers. Download the free EPUB.
